Rigoberto López Pérez (May 13, 1929September 21, 1956) was a Nicaraguan poet and music composer. He was the assassin of Anastasio Somoza García, the longtime dictator of Nicaragua. On September 21, 1956, López was able to infiltrate a party in the Club Social de Obreros de León that was attended by President Somoza and shot him in the chest. Lopéz was instantly killed in a hail of bullets and Somoza died a few days later in the Panama Canal Zone hospital. Somoza's son, Luis Somoza Debayle, replaced his father as president.

On September 21, 1981, 25 years after his death, the government of Nicaragua declared Rigoberto López Pérez a National Hero by means of Decree no. 825.

José Santos Reyes | My Song To Somoza

From the blog of Martha Solano. Follow the link above to see the whole poem.
I'll not translate it but, the story of the covert message is interesting.

A poem for Somoza?
Reviewing files I came across this gem: "My Song To Somoza," a poem published in a card in honor of Rigoberto Lopez Perez. What a contradiction.

I opened the invitation to see what was said about Rigoberto Lopez Perez, the poet who killed Anastasio Somoza García, 21 September 1956 and met with surprise that "My Song To Somosa" was not really a song for the dictator, but rather a poem as an acrostic to honor the courage of the poet from Leon that ended the life of the father of the Somoza dynasty.

On turning the page I found a note that clarifies how the emergence of the "song" Somoza. The poet José Santos Reyes had participated in a poetry contest in honor of Anastasio Somoza for yet another anniversary of his death. As you can see, if you read the verses without stopping in capital letters, since it seems nothing but a poem that celebrates the "heroic" dictator. So shocking. However, the poet Santos Reyes mocked the jury who failed to "discover" that it was an acrostic in honor of Rigoberto Lopez Perez and not a "song to" the tyrant.
